Accident – what to do?

Stay calm and follow these steps:

1. Secure the accident scene

• Switch on the hazard lights
• Put on the safety vest
• Place the warning triangle about 100 metres behind the vehicle
• Minor damage: move the vehicle out of the danger zone immediately
• Major damage: do not alter any traces and wait until the police have recorded the accident

2. Help the injured and call for help
Provide first aid as far as you can and alert the emergency services:

• 144 Ambulance
• 117 Police
• 118 Fire brigade
• 1414 Rega (air rescue)
• 112 European emergency number (also works abroad and without credit)

3. Document the accident

• ID documents of everyone involved
• Note licence plates, name and address of vehicle owners, insurance company and policy number
• Record the exact location and time
• Take photos of the scene and all vehicles involved
• Fill in the accident report and have it signed by everyone involved
