What can you expect as a Management Trainee? Jilwan shares his experience

Management Trainee bei Enterprise

Jilwan gives us a behind-the-scenes look at his everyday life as a Management Trainee at Enterprise. In this interview, he shares what the job is really like – and how his journey began.

Who are you, and what did you do before joining Enterprise? I'm Jilwan, and I've been working as a Management Trainee at Enterprise's Swiss headquarters in Kloten since March this year. I studied Business Administration with a minor in Banking & Finance. During my studies, I worked in field sales and with various promotional agencies – so sales has been a consistent part of my journey.

Why did you choose the Management Trainee role? Sales is my passion – it motivates me every day. I enjoy taking on responsibility and see the Management Trainee role as the perfect stepping stone into a future leadership position – particularly in Account Management, where I see myself long term. Breaking into this field isn’t always easy, but at Enterprise, I’ve been given both responsibility and support from day one.

What positively surprised you when you started? Already on my second day, I was right in the middle of things at the Zurich Airport branch. You're thrown in at the deep end – but in a good way. I had the chance to get insights into different departments early on and understand how everything fits together.

What does your typical workday look like now? I started out at the airport branch, then moved on to logistics, and now I’m part of the Inside Sales team. My tasks include lead generation, cold calling, preparing contracts, and handling support tickets. Step by step, I’m also taking on more management responsibilities.

What do you enjoy most about your work? Customer contact really motivates me – whether it's at the counter or over the phone. I enjoy building relationships, finding solutions, and taking ownership. I find it especially exciting how much personal initiative is encouraged, and I enjoy taking on challenges – like upselling to customers, which I got to practice right from the start at the counter.

How have you developed since starting the role? I’ve become more mindful about acting professionally and being a role model. I've also learned that it’s okay not to know everything yet – what matters is how you handle challenges.

What kind of support do you receive as a Management Trainee? I have a mentor I meet with regularly to reflect on progress and discuss challenges. The direct feedback helps me grow and self-reflect. I really appreciate learning from his leadership experience – especially when it comes to self-leadership, staying decisive under pressure, leading change, and developing a clear leadership stance.

How would you describe the company culture at Enterprise? The atmosphere is very open and collaborative. I’ve received support from the very beginning – no matter who I turned to. There’s a real sense of team spirit and strong cohesion, which makes the day-to-day work really enjoyable. The international environment, especially at the airport, adds an exciting dynamic.

Any memorable moments so far? I’ve learned that you don’t have to know everything from the start. It’s totally fine to admit when something is new to you – as long as you're open, ask questions, and keep learning step by step. That’s exactly what the learning culture at Enterprise is about.
